MN Earned Safe & Sick Time Summary & Resources

  • Effective January 1, 2024.

  • Applies to ALL employers and all employees who work in Minnesota at least 80 hours in a year.

  • Employees earn one hour for every 30 hours worked up to 48 hours.

  • Expands applicable reasons for sick leave.

  • Requires notice to all employees.

  • Likely includes transit time in Minnesota even with no stops.

  • Requires tracking hours even for trucking companies.

  • Requires converting mileage and % commission to hourly rate for purposes of tracking and compliance.

In response to member requests, we have developed potential models for your consideration. 

 

These models have been sourced from MTA member companies, with assistance from CliftonLarsonAllen. The goal is to provide you examples regarding how you MAY track and report driver hours for purposes of compliance. State guidance regarding how to convert mileage or commission compensation is very minimal, which means there are several potential methods to comply with the new law.
